BTYC MAG Junior Invitational 2026: Host Club Wins Three All-Around Titles and Two Team Crowns on Home Turf

BTYC Gymnastics hosted its MAG Junior Invitational on 26 July, the first time this specific junior event has appeared in our results, though the club has run MAG competitions before. Ten clubs turned out across Levels 1 to 4, each level split into Open and Under age brackets: BTYC, Knox Gym Club, Geelong YMCA Gym Club, MYC Gymnastics, PIT Gymnastics, Essendon Keilor Gym Academy, Gymnastics Unlimited, Eastern Gymnastics Club, Dolphin Gymnastics Club, and Melbourne City Gymnastics. This event didn't include apparatus finals, so the day ran on all-around and team scores alone, 117 individual entries and six team events spread across the eight divisions.

BTYC RULES ITS OWN FLOOR

No club had a better day than the host. BTYC won three of the competition's eight individual all-around titles: Joash Lim in Level 3 Open (51.800), Ziyan Semar in Level 4 Open (52.600), and Rian Chan in Level 4 Under (54.100), the highest all-around score of the entire competition. BTYC backed that up with two of the day's six team titles, Level 3 Open (153.05) and Level 4 Under (153.30), and placed athletes in the top four of five of the eight all-around divisions. Melbourne City Gymnastics was the only other club to manage more than one, courtesy of Harley Fehily-Lewis and Zach Zweck's wins below.

A CLEAN SWEEP AT LEVEL 1 UNDER

Level 1 Under belonged entirely to Harley Fehily-Lewis, who won the all-around at 53.450, 3.15 clear of Geelong YMCA's Henley Kules in second, then went one further: Fehily-Lewis won all six individual apparatus outright, floor (8.650), pommel horse (8.150), rings (8.800), vault (9.600), parallel bars (8.900), and high bar (9.350). It's the only clean sweep of the competition. Fehily-Lewis competes for Melbourne City Gymnastics; clubmate Ari Hirsch backed up the result with third place in the same division (49.350).

THE TIGHTEST MARGIN OF THE DAY

Level 2 Open produced the closest finish of the competition: Zach Zweck (Melbourne City Gymnastics) won the all-around at 53.500, just 0.025 ahead of Jackson Cohoe of MYC Gymnastics on 53.475. The team result went the other way. MYC's Level 2 Open team took out the division title at 158.625, holding off Melbourne City Gymnastics' own team by 2.4 points, 156.225, even with Zweck's individual win in the bag. The closest individual finish of the day and the team result in the same division didn't point the same way, MYC's overall squad depth carried it to the team title even without the top individual score.

RIAN CHAN'S 10.15

BTYC's Rian Chan capped a Level 4 Under win with the single highest score of the competition: a 10.15 on pommel horse. Chan won three of the six individual apparatus outright, pommel horse, floor (9.400), and rings (9.100), and combined them with a 54.100 all-around total, 2.1 clear of Knox's Ray Gao in second (52.000). It's the highest all-around total posted anywhere at the competition, ahead of even the Level 1 Under and Level 2 Open winners.

Two other BTYC gymnasts topped individual apparatus scores across the whole competition: Rupert Pears's 9.800 on parallel bars, in the table above, and Sami Elbarbar's 9.500 on high bar in Level 2 Under. The other three apparatus-best scores went elsewhere: Knox's Elijah Batty posted 9.300 on rings in Level 4 Open, and Essendon Keilor's Oliver Arcibal matched it with 9.700 on floor, also Level 4 Open. Melbourne City Gymnastics' Sean Prior-Rooney posted the competition's best vault, 9.700, in Level 2 Open, where he finished third overall on 51.050.

FIRST COMPETITIONS AND PERSONAL BESTS

Knox Gym Club's Level 1 squad had one of the tidiest results of the day: River Rickards, Finn Mitchell, and Steve Rae went 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in the Level 1 Open all-around (50.100, 47.950, 45.000). The club pointed to several of its Level 1, 2, and 3 boys as first-time competitors afterwards: "A great start and experience for the boys, we cannot wait to watch them progress this season."

PIT Gymnastics had a big day across Levels 3 and 4. Aurelius Wilson was the highlight, second in the Level 3 Open all-around (51.500) behind only Joash Lim, with wins on pommel horse and rings and second-place finishes on parallel bars and high bar along the way, plus a completed Level Assessment Test. Clubmate Phoenix Perry finished last in that same eight-strong division on the all-around (40.400) but posted Level 3 Open's best vault, 9.000, at his first invitational, a reminder that the overall standings don't always tell the whole story. Further down the field, Level 3 Under's Oscar Mitchell and Harvey Reid both completed their Level Assessment Tests, Mitchell backing his up with a tied sixth-place finish on high bar, and Level 4 Under's Thomas Dahlenburg did the same, finishing fourth on high bar and posting a personal best of ten loops on pommel horse; clubmate Sonny Boustead matched him with his own pommel horse personal best. As the club put it: "The boys have been training incredibly hard and this competition was the perfect opportunity to showcase all the skills they've been working towards." PIT's Level 3 Open team backed it up with second place overall (143.9), behind BTYC's 153.05.
