TL;DR The 2026 Junior Victorian Championships ran over four days, from 15 to 18 October, to close out the WAG season. MAGA topped the medal tally with eight golds and thirteen all-around medals, and Strive Gymnastics won the Level 5 Division 3 and Level 6 Division 3 team titles. MAGA's Luckshetha Mauran won Level 5 Division 1 on 38.033, Knox's Emma Curlis won Level 7 Division 1 on 47.949, and Chamford won the Level 7 Division 1 team title on 143.016. Plenty of gymnasts and teams further down the order saved their best scores of the season for the biggest stage. At the Southern Cross Classic, run alongside Vics for the Unders pathway, Delta took the Level 7 and Level 9 titles and Geelong YMCA's Edwina Cross won Level 8.

That's a wrap on the 2026 WAG season. Four days of competition, from Thursday 15 to Sunday 18 October, with Levels 3 to 7 all crowning their Victorian Champions. Results are one thing, but the part we enjoyed most this year was digging through the scores and finding how many gymnasts and teams, at every end of the leaderboard, posted their best numbers of the season when it mattered most.

STRIVE'S BIG WEEKEND

It was a big weekend for Strive Gymnastics. The Warrnambool club won the Level 5 Division 3 team title on 104.107, with Ballarat Gymsports snatching the silver medal, then added the Level 6 Division 3 title on 103.464, with Mildura taking silver. In Level 5 Division 3, Payson Walker took gold on vault (9.433) and Olive Horwill took gold on floor (9.016), and both finished inside the top five with season-best all-around scores. In the club's own words, it's "a huge milestone" for a club established just three years ago, and both titles were its first-ever Victorian team championships.

It wasn't only the title winners. Strive's Level 3 Division 2 team took bronze in Group B on 103.165, and the Level 4 Division 2 team finished sixth in Group B on 103.423. Both were Strive's best team scores of the season in those divisions. The Level 4 Division 1 team finished eighth in Group B, but put up 24.082 on bars, its second-best bars score of the season, and its 95.407 total was within 0.3 of its Regionals score. That's a good result on the biggest stage of the year, and it capped off a weekend this club will remember for a long time.

LEVELS 3 AND 4: TEAM TITLES SPREAD AROUND

Nine different clubs won a team title or group across Levels 3 and 4. MAGA won Level 3 Division 1 on 110.999, with Pulse right behind in silver on 109.941, its best of the season. In Level 3 Division 2, Pulse won Group A and Diamond Group B. In Level 3 Division 3, East Gippsland won Group A and Dolphin Group B, with Dolphin's 105.149 more than four points above anything it had posted in Level 3 all year. In Level 4 Division 2, Aerodynamix Yellow won Group A on a season-best 109.64 and CYC won Group B. In Level 4 Division 3, Bentleigh McKinnon won Group A on a season best and Casey Navy won Group B.

Waverley's Level 3 Red team took bronze in Division 1 at what the club says was the girls' first Victorian Championships, and its Level 4 Red team was second in Division 1 Group A on 111.499, a season best, after posting the top vault and beam scores in its group. The club also mentioned that every one of its Level 4 gymnasts qualified for Vics this year. You can read the full Waverley wrap-up on their site. EKGA's Level 4 Division 2 team took silver in Group A on 108.757, its best of the season, and per the club's post finished on the podium on every apparatus. Eureka took bronze in Level 3 Division 3 Group B and silver in Level 4 Division 3 Group B, the silver on a season best, and Chamford's bronze in Level 4 Division 1 Group A was a season best too.

MAGA's two Level 4 Division 1 teams both won their groups at Vics. MAGA Pink won Group A to put an exclamation mark on an unbeaten 2026, eight Level 4 Division 1 competitions and eight wins. MAGA Orange went unbeaten in Division 2 this season, four from four, before being bumped up to Division 1 in late August. After finishing second to Pink at both Regionals and the Jets State of Mind Invitational, it took out Group B for its first Division 1 win. Geelong YMCA had both of its Level 4 Division 1 teams in the mix too. Geelong YMCA Black grabbed a spot on the Group B podium with bronze on 105.363, helped by the second-highest vault score in the group, and Geelong YMCA Red put up 28.125 on beam in Group A, its second-best beam score of the season. Watching from the stands, though, I couldn't have picked the podium in either group. Every Level 4 Division 1 team I saw looked like it was saving its best till last, and the final places weren't obvious to me until the results were called.

MAURAN TOPS LEVEL 5 DIVISION 1

MAGA's Luckshetha Mauran won Level 5 Division 1 on 38.033, with Waverley's Rylee Lo just 0.058 back in silver, along with gold on vault and floor. MAGA's Lily Chiu was third. MAGA also won the team title on 113.941, its best of the season, with Waverley taking silver and Niddrie bronze. According to Waverley, every one of their gymnasts hit all four routines, with no falls on beam across the whole team. In the Under field, Chamford's Ariana Katsis won on 37.591 and Waverley's Porsha Bell took gold on vault. Further down the order, Knox posted its best team score of the season in seventh, and Chamford's Piper Silber finished ninth on a season best, almost a full point above her previous high.

Level 5 Division 2 had eighty-one gymnasts, and Pulse's Adrielle Cardenas won it on 36.099, with PIT's Janelle Sagayca and Niddrie's Mathilde Kitsios taking silver and bronze. MAGA won another team title, with LFK and Pulse taking silver and bronze.

In Level 5 Division 3, Werribee's Sarah Nguyen won on 36.224 and also took gold on bars and beam. Ballarat's team silver was its best score of the season, and clubmate Sophie Dockrey finished eleventh on a season best, 1.274 up on her previous high. Mildura's Level 5s were all at their first Victorian Championships, and Mia Yetman marked the occasion with bronze on vault and a season-best all-around score. Not bad for a first Vics, from a field of eighty.

NIDDRIE'S TOP FOUR IN LEVEL 6

Aurora Gazzo won Level 6 Division 1 on 37.341, leading a Niddrie top four, with only 0.033 between her and clubmate Sasindee Sunnadeniya in second. Chamford's Chloe Baker won the Under field on 36.382. MYC took bars gold in both fields, through Estelle Martinelli (9.625, on a season-best all-around) and Eliza Newton Gilcrist, who shared Under bars gold with BTYC's Ella Greig.

Aerodynamix's River Morgan won Level 6 Division 2 on 36.133, after sharing gold at the Jets State of Mind Invitational the weekend before, and led Aerodynamix to the team title on 107.449, a season best. Three more teams also set season bests: Niddrie in second, CYC in fourth and Diamond in fifth. Melton's Delnia Darabi took gold on beam with 9.425, and MYC's Ruby Anderson finished tenth, more than a point above her previous best this season. In Division 3, Aerodynamix's Maisie Ward won on 34.141, with three Strive gymnasts filling the next three places, and Werribee posted its best team score of the season in sixth.

CURLIS AND CHAMFORD IN LEVEL 7

Knox's Emma Curlis won Level 7 Division 1 on 47.949, with Chamford's Mia Bell taking silver on 47.35 and clubmate Layla Fairweather bronze on 47.033. Chamford's Cora Turski won the Under field on 47.95, with MLC's Miranda Hale coming in just after, and Chamford took the team title on 143.016, its best of the season, with MLC taking silver on 140.581 and MAGA bronze. MLC's silver is worth a mention: the club noted that its gymnasts had to deal with "the challenges of training off-site" this year. MLC's Kristen Canoy finished sixth all-around but took gold on both bars (12.55) and floor (12.333). Jets finished fourth on a season-best team score, with Abigail Mecklem fourth on 46.933 and Eliza Roberts eighth on 46.533, almost two points above her previous high. Knox, Melbourne City and Diamond also set team season bests.

Level 7 Division 2 was the closest finish of the weekend. MAGA's Liza Hyndman won on 45.55, with EKGA's Sienna Caputa just 0.017 back in silver and Eclipse's Tiahn Falla in third. MAGA won the team title, with EKGA taking silver and Geelong YMCA bronze. Flyaway had a great day, with its best team score of the season in fifth, Amelia Cuttler taking floor gold (12.35) on her way to fifth all-around, more than two points above her previous best, and Piper Fogarty also posting a season best more than two points up. Edge's Scout Richardson matched Fogarty's 43.916, 2.416 above her own previous best. CYC's Anastacia Katrich and EKGA's Harriet Gluschenko shared vault gold on 11.9, and Niddrie posted its best team score of the season in seventh.

A (JUST FOR FUN) MEDAL TALLY

Who went home with the most hardware? We counted every all-around medal from the Junior Victorian Championships, individual places in Levels 5 to 7 and team places in Levels 3 to 7, and ranked the clubs Olympic-style, golds first, with a button to switch to total medals. MAGA topped the table with eight golds and thirteen all-around medals in total.

Please take this one with a grain of chalk. The Apparatus column counts every apparatus medal won by each club, individual medals in Levels 5 to 7 and team medals in Levels 3 and 4. A few things outside our control will have nudged the numbers. We don't have the Level 6 Division 1 team results, so any medals from that event are missing. Divisions that ran as Over and Under fields, or as Group A and B, had more medals on offer than those that ran as a single field. And clubs that qualified more teams and gymnasts had more chances to medal, which is an achievement in itself. So this is a bit of fun, and it should not take away from the hard work that all gymnasts have done to get here.

Update · 22 October 2026

We originally counted team apparatus placings in Levels 5 to 7 as medals, but teams at those levels only receive all-around medals. The Apparatus column now counts individual apparatus medals in Levels 5 to 7 and team apparatus medals in Levels 3 and 4, and the totals and order have changed to match.

It's also worth remembering that just qualifying for Vics is a huge achievement. Plenty of gymnasts who didn't come home with a medal still did some amazing gymnastics over the four days, while most of us grunt getting up off the couch.

SOUTHERN CROSS CLASSIC

Running alongside Vics, the Southern Cross Classic took place on the Saturday night. Delta Gymnastics described it as a competition "designed specifically for athletes in the Unders pathway", with gymnasts competing against their own age cohort in Level 7 Under 11, Level 8 Under 12 and Level 9 Under 13. Interstate visitors Delta took two of the three all-around titles, through Maycie Deane in Level 7 (47.816) and Shelley Nouri in Level 9 (48.583).

Geelong YMCA's Edwina Cross won Level 8 on 48.583, matching the top score of the night, with Delta's Anika Sands grabbing silver and Waverley's Maria Jin in bronze on a season best (Waverley has a write-up of its Level 8s too). Geelong YMCA's Macy Bix took Level 7 bronze, and in Level 9, Chamford's Lexi Thomas and Geelong YMCA's Ivy Alford took silver and bronze. Flyaway's Ruby Kelly competed Developing International on the night, scoring 48.55.

SEE YOU IN 2027

That's the end of a big season, and a big thank you to every gymnast, coach, judge, volunteer and parent who made it happen. With the Gymnastics Australia changes coming, some gymnasts will move up a level, some could stay where they are, and divisions might change too. We just don't know how things will look once the dust settles, so let's hold onto this one for a bit. Rest up, enjoy the break, and we'll see you back on the floor next year.
